About

My name is Lotte van Schijndel, a Dutch textile artist with a background in fashion design.

My creative journey began at the Fashion Academy in Antwerp and continued at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem. After graduating, I moved to Paris, where an internship grew into several years of working in the fashion industry before returning to the Netherlands to work in fashion and interior design.

For over fifteen years I worked with textiles, colour and materials in a fast-moving commercial world. I loved creating beautiful things, but over time I found myself longing for a slower, more meaningful way of making. One where craftsmanship, storytelling and emotion could take centre stage.

That search became Benvenuta.

Today I create one-of-a-kind textile artworks by layering carefully selected fabrics, embroidery and hand stitching. Some pieces begin with a cherished photograph, transforming a memory into a tactile work of art. Others emerge from my own imagination, inspired by everyday moments, motherhood, nature and the quiet beauty found in ordinary life.

Every fabric carries its own history. Every stitch is placed by hand. My work is about preserving stories in a material that invites you not only to look, but almost to reach out and touch.

Benvenuta means welcome in Italian. It is also the name of our home. To me, it represents the feeling I hope every piece brings: warmth, familiarity and a sense of belonging. Because the most beautiful interiors are not the most perfect ones—they are the ones that tell your story.
